I have been ball milling my bp for a year now, and lately my powder is clumping up in the mill, it use to come out nice and fluffy. Whats happening, is the potassium nitrate or sulfur absorbing moisture and causing the clumping problem.

Here's a shot of some stainless steel media and ceramic media. The stainless steel must be sparkresistant, nonmagnetic steel in the 300series. Alloys 304 and 316 are the most common stainless steels of this type. Highdensity alumina ceramic media is the type I've heard of most often being used in ball mills.

Ball milling your black powder is the only way I know of to make the powder fine enough to nicely coat the rice hulls, and powerful enough to make good burst charge. Skylighter's TL5005 ball mill will make ounces of BP/binder at a time, and Skylighter's TL5010, one gallon ball mill will handle a 21ounce batch.

I've made some pretty good black powder using a coffee grinder and porter porter and pestle, but I was looking into getting a ball was going to get one of the cheap 70 6lb rock tumbler and modify it per skylighter's directions, but I would still need to get media to fill it half full, 200 1/2" balls.
